You would require the following things:
5 plastic shells; shirt; plain white headband; netting; colorful ribbons; green silk ribbon; a sequined fabric in  the color your choice and a tulle.

• While making a mermaid costume, encourage your little daughter to take the initiative while you just guide her through the process, and help her if she finds something difficult.

• The first step to make a little mermaid costume is to buy a plain white headband. Glue the headband with 5 large plastic shells in front of the headband. You can use different shades of plastic shells. Shades of green shells would look attractive.

• Next, purchase a shirt. It is ideal if the shirt has a lavender or purple shade. Get a lavender or purple colored sequined fabric of the length of your choice. If you are not using a purple shirt, the fabric should be matching with the color of your shirt.

• Stitch the sequined fabric on the top front side of the shirt, in such a way that the top half of the shirt is covered with the sequined fabric. You can help your child through the sewing process.

• Wrap tulle around the middle of the sequined part of the shirt in a way that it forms two halves. Next, attach a ribbon over the entire length of the tulle. You can either sew it or pin it using a safety pin.

• This would form the upper part of your little mermaid costume. Next, for the bottom part of your dress, you can sew an appropriate length of light green fabric to the bottom of your shirt. The fabric should snake from the middle of the torso till at least below the knee.

• Stitch the netting to the bottom of the skirt and sew green tulle over the netting. If you wish to further decorate you can add a couple of more layers of silk ribbon to the back of the skirt.

Your little mermaid costume would be ready and your little daughter would be proud of her creation.
